I researched-and-researched-and-researched for a great backpack— one that is not too big or too small + holds a 17” laptop & a 13” laptop + has well designed pocket / organization + has molle + of course, aesthetically pleasing.I primarily use it for commuting, and traveling. I’m a graphic designer, so I’m always carrying my 17” apple laptop and lots of additional tech/wires/charger etc. Additionally I’m a gamer, so I always carry my controller and my 13” Razer gaming laptop. So I’m able to carry two laptops(!), and a plethora of other things. One of my favorite details about the bag, is the Mystery Ranch “Y” zipper design—It’s truly amazing, and not just a gimmick or novelty. I can easily open my bag, and everything doesn’t fall out because of the way they attached the pockets to the inside of the bag.Whoever created this bag is a top notch bag designer, who understands cargo. whoever the designer is, I imagine their closets are impeccably organized. If you’re looking for a real-deal backpack, then look no further, this is worth every penny.Quality is top-notch! I love every about the design, the ergonomics, and the durability. The ONLY thing that I would advise if you looking to purchase is it's a little small inside the pack. There is two external side pouches and anything you put in those pouches pushes inward thus taking away from internal space. There is two external zippered pockets on the lid, but anything you put in those pushes into the pack, thus again taking away from internal space. It's definitely made for a minimal amount for a 1 day (maybe 2 days) excursion.Top quality as all Mystery Ranch packs but just a little smaller than I expected. Perfect for day hikes or day missions but don't expect to fit warming layers or sleeping materials like a sleep system in it. Maybe a woobie and some silks and one MRE in the main compartment. It's light weight and has a small profile, yet feels very durable. It reminds me of some of the gear I had back in the day (tm) when I was in the Army; milspec quality stuff. The options for adjustments are perfect allowing me to get a great fit and seated perfectly along my back and shoulders, I hate packs that hang low because that unsettling center of gravity gets tiring after a while. On the other hand it is easy to adjust the straps on the move which is nice because if anyone has ever worn a pack for an extended period of time, then you know how nice it is to loosen, tighten, and switch to sling mode here and there to help free up spots on your back that get too hot over time because even with breathable material like that present on this pack, the bottom line is that there is still weight pushing material along your back and you will still get hot depending on how long you wear the pack. The primary harnesses are thick and comfortable, even when I loaded the pack for weight I didn't feel anything digging into my shoulders. I'm used to seeing red marks on my shoulders with other packs and this comfort is something I'm not used to.It's about impossible to classify anything with a zipper as water proof but with this zipper design, I don't think it can be any closer, or better.== Capacity ==Before looking at capacity, it is important to note that most of the time, pack capacity is measured by the outer dimensions of the pack and the actual capacity is often much different. I prefer a smaller, low profile pack and I rarely use the full capacity so that I can be lighter and more mobile but some people like to carry everything so I measured the capacity of this pack using a more practical method.Though the pack has a listed capacity of 27 liters when measuring total volume. If you are hauling clothes only, then I guess you could squeeze in a total of about 27 liters but in reality, items placed in a pack don't fit together perfectly in a way that lets you use every last ML of space.I used 20oz water bottles which when converted to liters is equal to 591 ML per bottle. This is also the standard size of a small soda bottle. Using this method, I was able to get 21 bottles in the alpha storage area and 3 more in the larger of the two top pockets for a total of 24 or 14.1 liters, much less than the 27 liters advertised. This was a snug fit for the bottles and without using the compression straps. I placed the bottles in a manner that would allow me to put as many of them in the pack as possible. However there are also two external side pockets both of which are large enough to fit 2 additional bottles each for an additional 4 bottles total and an adjusted total capacity of 16.5 Liters. This of course does not include items that you might attach to the molle. The "laptop pocket" will fit either a 15" laptop or a flat hydration bottle but not both. Since there is a side zipper that can be used to access the laptop pocket, you could also fit a handgun in there easily as long as it is not holstered and it can be reached without opening the main pack area. This shouldn't be too surprising though since it's advertised as a tactical pack.Though a 17" laptop will not fit in the laptop pocket, it will fit awkwardly within the main cargo area. I have a beefy Alienware 17" laptop with dimensions that exceed 17" and was able to easily fit it within the main section of the pack, but I think you would need a protective sleeve for your 17" laptop because despite the low weight of the pack, the netted pockets within it are quite heavy duty and somewhat abrasive. You could however fit the brick with cord in the laptop pocket unless of course you were going for battery power only.Use this as my emergency / get home pack. It stays in the truck with basic survival gear, trauma kit, hygiene kit, and spare clothing. Like being able to attach stuff to the outside to save room in the pack. Very solid and durable. Good alternative to the expensive 3dapPerfect mid-size pack for patrolling or all that extra gear that you need to take but can’t carry on your person. Great quality and material. The three zipper design makes accessing the main compartment easy to get items that find their way to the bottom. This pack just works. It is featured where appropriate, like in terms of internal pockets sternum strap etc, but stops short of having the pack dripping with extras you done need or use. The molle points on the outside are a great location for add ons when you need them, I keep my sunglasses pouch on the outside when traveling. Built well and does exactly what it says, it seem like it will last a long time.I have gone through several bags and this one seems to fit the bill perfectlyDer Rucksack ist der perfekte Begleiter in jeder Situation.
